Local Festivities

Moors and Christians Festival

The Moros y Cristianos festival in Onil is the town’s most important celebration, held every year at the end of April in honor of the Virgin of Health. It recreates historical battles between Moors and Christians through colorful parades, music, fireworks, and traditional costumes, bringing the whole town together in a vibrant and unique cultural event with centuries of history

The Mare de Déu de la Salut is the patron saint of Onil and holds a central role in the town’s identity and traditions. She is deeply respected due to historical beliefs that her intercession helped end a plague, making her a symbol of protection and health for the community. Today, she remains at the heart of local celebrations and religious devotion.
